Finance Analyst Resume Guide 2026

Turn spreadsheet work and variance commentary into quantified business impact — with the FP&A keywords and model-to-decision bullets that finance hiring managers want.

A finance analyst resume should show rigor and business impact. Quantify forecasts, budgets, and cost savings you influenced, name your tools (Excel, SQL, financial modeling, ERP/BI), and show you turn analysis into decisions leaders trust — recruiters filter out pages that list responsibilities without measurable financial outcomes.

What recruiters expect to see

Technical & Finance Skills

List tools (Excel, SAP, Oracle, Power BI) and financial domains (FP&A, treasury, controllership). Domain-specific filtering is heavy in finance.

Work Experience with Impact

Tie every model or report to the decision it enabled or cost it reduced. "Built monthly MIS" is weak; "MIS that guided Rs 8 Cr capex decision" is strong.

Certifications

CA, CPA, CFA, CMA — these are hard filters for senior finance roles at Big 4 and corporates.

ATS keywords to include

Sample bullets that work

Each follows the verb + action + scope + measurable outcome pattern.

  • Built 3-statement integrated financial model for Rs 450 Cr capex project; model adopted by CFO for board presentation, project approved within one review cycle.
  • Improved monthly close from Day+8 to Day+3 by automating 12 manual journal entries (SAP + Python); reduced month-end effort by 22 analyst-hours.
  • Led annual budgeting cycle for Rs 2,800 Cr revenue business across 8 P&L owners; achieved 96% on-time submission vs 72% prior year.
  • Identified Rs 1.6 Cr procurement leakage through vendor spend analysis; flagged to CPO, 3 contracts renegotiated in following quarter.

Action verbs to open bullets

Mistakes that kill interviews

  • "Prepared financial reports" without specifying what they informed or influenced. Every finance output must be tied to a decision.
  • Listing "Microsoft Excel" without specifying depth: pivot tables, VBA macros, Power Query, complex financial models — these are separate signals.
  • Omitting ERP systems. SAP, Oracle, Tally — whichever you use, name it. Recruiters at corporates filter by ERP directly.
  • Missing accounting standards knowledge. IFRS, Ind AS, IAS 16 — for controllership roles these are non-negotiable.

ATS-specific tips for this role

  • "FP&A" and "Financial Planning and Analysis" both appear in JDs — use both forms.
  • List ERP in full: "SAP S/4HANA", "Oracle Fusion Financials" — generic "ERP" misses specific ATS matches.
  • "Financial modelling" and "financial model" are both ATS keywords — include the verb form in bullets.
  • "Ind AS" and "IFRS" are separate keywords — include whichever is relevant and both if you have exposure to both.
